Meechai Ruchuphan Takes a Stand for Democratic Governance

Meechai suggests PPP-led coalition to appoint non-MPs as ministers

The Nation

Outgoing National Legislative Assembly Speaker Meechai Ruchuphan said Tuesday that the People Power Party's coalition should appoints non-MPs as Cabinet members if it has a slim majority in the House of Representatives.

Meechai said if the coalition has a slim majority and appoints MPs as its Cabinet members, it will further lose control in the House.

"If many MPs are appointed ministers, the coalition will find it difficult to work. The House's meetings may be disrupted if some coalition lawmakers have other schedules or even when they have to toilet rooms," Meechai said.

Hell, why not just eliminate parliament all together and make Meechai permanent secretary for Thailand.

He really is in love with his own bureaucratic prowess and his fellow incompetent unelected minions.

The last 15 months Meechai has had his way and Thailand has been run by old bureaucrats from outside parliament.

It has been a disaster.

Somebody needs to put this old boy out to pasture.

Actually, I think that's how things will likely turnout, given the slim majority PPP now holding (and vice versa if Dems' coalition government). Without Chart Thai and Puea Pandin alliance, they just cannot afford to trade MP for minister position.
