The Democrat Party is a National Disgrace

Democrat files complaint against PM

Bangkok Post

The Democrat party filed a complaint to the Royal Thai Police against Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat for letting the confrontations between the riot police and the anti-government group to break out on Tuesday, according to Democrat executive and opposition chief whip Sathit Wongnongtoey.

After the Democrat party meeting to evaluate the political situation on Wednesday, Mr Sathit said the Democrats considered the premier to be responsible for the ordering the police to disperse the crowd of protesters led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), causing more than 400 injuries and two deaths.

He accused Prime Minister Somchai of violating the criminal code sections 295 and 297.

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will draft a letter to explain the actual clashes between the police and protesters on Tuesday to foreign countries, Mr Sathit said.

According to the Democrat party, the government was trying to distort the truth by accusing the demonstrators for being armed so the police can use forceful measures. It also claimed that the government wanted to pass the blame of inciting unrest to a third party.

The Democrat party also accused the government for not following the international standard in dealing with a group of protesters by alleging that the police was trying to negotiate with the protesters before the clashes occurred.

I used to have some respect for Abhisit. If the Democrats could have won a legitimate election without the crutch of extrajudicial crises, the media and the agitation of illegal mobs, he probably would have been a good PM. It is too bad he couldn't wait to come to power through legitimate means-- like an election. It looks like he is waiting in the wings, because the Democrats will become the last and final alternative to the current crisis. This is truly the end game everybody is pining for but nobody has got the balls to the tell the truth about their motives and intentions. Abhisit really is one cynical politician. He is worst than Thaksin in the sense that he has to have a fascist mob take over government and parliament house in order to pave the way for his political ascendancy. Hey, if you can't win an election after giving it a shot 3 times, have somebody else do the dirty work for you by agitating for the collapse of the government, then take over when there is nobody else to take over.

The fact of the matter is that if the Democrats were in power there is no way in hell they would allow a mob of Thaksinistas to take over Government House and Parliament indefinitely. Why won't one Thai reporter ask Abhisit that question? Khun Abhisit, if you were in the shoes of PM Somchai and had thousands of Thaksin supporters occupying Government House and Parliament, would you do nothing and just move your offices to Don Muang and allow these mobs to bring the government to a standstill?

The hypocritical Thai media makes me want to puke. Can you imagine what the editors at The Nation and the Bangkok Post would be printing if Thaksinista mobs took over their buildings and prevented them from publishing? Their hysteria would be deafening, especially if the police told them that they are on their own and they would have to negotiate and supplicate to the mobs in order to return to work.
