Thailand’s Constitutional Court dissolved the ruling People Power Party and two coalition partners, forcing Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and dozens of leaders to step down and banning them from politics for five years.
“The court’s ruling may create disagreement among some people,” said Judge Chat Chalaworn in reading the decision to disband the party for vote buying in last year’s election. “But the court wants every party to accept the verdict because the judgment was made in line with the constitution.”
---“The demonstrators may think that using the king’s powers or using the courts to appoint a government is not a military coup, but for the people who support the government it makes no difference,” said Kanin Boonsuwan, a constitutional law professor at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University. “Even though the prime minister will be gone, parliament will still be there.”
Anybody with half a brain cell knows this is a bullshit case. The outcome was easily predicted though.
The junta picked courts have one duty and one duty only: Destroy Thaksin and his allies.
What the Reds need to do is not stoop to the PAD's level. They should take the high road and engage in peaceful civil disobedience. I don't think it will happen. I think they are fed up with all the hypocrisy. The courts have made it clear that the PAD, the Democrats and the military are above the law.
Bangkok Pundit asked the rhetorical question, so I will ask it also: Now that the PAD got what it wanted-- Somchai has been ousted-- will they now pack up their bags and go? The answer is no, of course.
