Thailand-Singapore flare ups

The Nation

Thai-Singapore relations

The Thai media, including resident foreign policy analyst, Don Pathan of The Nation, is saying the cause of the recent Thai-Singapore spat is about Singaporean hospitality to our old square faced friend, Sia Thaksin.

The issue is deeper than a meeting of two old neighborly chums.

Lets face it: Singapore is still pissed about getting screwed on the Temasak-Shin deal debacle, and Thaksin is pissed about getting his diplomatic passport confiscated.

They are trying to rile the generals up, and the generals fell into the trap.

The generals should have done nothing, said nothing, like Sgt. Shultz from Hogan's Heroes.

As for who needs whom more, Thailand needs Singapore more.

In military matters, the Singaporean airforce could defeat the Royal Thai Air in about five minutes.

And what are the Thais going to do? Invade with their crappy aircraf carrier that doesn't work and has no aircraft or spareparts?

Plus, Thailand needs Singaporan capital and expertise more than it needs anything from Thailand. I'm sure Singapore can get Ma Ma noodle substitutes elsewhere, though they may need to pay more for Durian.
